Graphic Design 1
WOW. Projects, learning, memorization, videos, flashcards, everything. I love my Graphic Design 1 classes this year. They are super smart and fun. 3rd hour is full of super sweet and attentive students. 5th hour contains all the hilarious goofballs who constantly make jokes that I can't stop laughing at. 7th period is beginning to warm up to me. They were a little shy for awhile, but I think we're getting closer to a stronger relationship. It's the last class of the day. They're exhausted. I don't blame them after 6 hours (often) sitting in a chair and having to learn everything!
Graphic Design 2
We've also accomplished a lot in the last few months. Currently, they are working on creating their own brand identity. This project is in the hopes of them being able to create a logo, business card, website and resume for any career they would like to pursue after high school. They need to have a consistent color palette and them throughout all of their design projects. It's so great to watch my GD2 class. They really begin to shine as designers, now that they've got to practice their skills for a year and a half. I love this class, they are motivated, ask questions, pay attention and are interested in creating great work. It's kind of the "best of" GD1 students from previous years. Makes my heart happy!
This year has been different for me than every other year. We are able to split the class up into, thanks to the WONDERFULLY AMAZING Mr. Greg Contreras! It's a much larger class than previous years. I have students that are much more interested in the design aspect of graphic design and I have students who love screen printing. It's a really good mix. I've had (most) of these students for 3 years. So I really get to know them well! That's one of the joys of this job.
SkillsUSA Competitive Team
Oh yeah! These are the all-stars from GD2 and Screen Printing! We meet weekly to practice for our competitions next semester. They currently are working on submissions for the Pin Design competition. Last year, Erik Perez made the top 10 in the state for Pin Design. This year, with more knowledge and a better understanding of the process these students are doing amazing work!!!!! Here's a little snapshot of their progress. Many of them are not finished. Hopefully they'll be finished to we can move along to the other competition categories.
Thanks for reading - if you got all the way here! Have a fantastic day!
