Hello everyone! We're doing some great things in Graphic Design! I would have to say while this has been my most difficult year - it's been the smoothest and most productive. The new students are amazing and ready to learn. My returning a students are jumping right in and getting things done! Although I love my summers, it's great to be back in my classroom feeling like a productive member of society. Haha. Intro to Photoshop We're finally getting to the point where we can work on projects. This week they created a Low Polygon Effect image and many of them moved on to the Selective Color assignment. Many of them are hungry to learn and ask pointed and specific questions about sometimes advanced topics. I've been showing some of them more advanced concepts one-on-one and they're taking it in well. Here are some photos of their assignments we just finished: FHS Screen Printing This is a huge class! I've never had this many students in one of my screen printing classes before. Fortunately, we've hit the ground running! We just finished our first order of shirts for FEPMB (Flagstaff Eagle Pride Marching Band). The students really, really nailed it. They learned each component fast. They put it together fast and they were all around incredible to work with. I've opened up a lot to them this year that I haven't previously. They are receiving emails, meeting with clients, writing quotes in addition to the typical stuff; designing and printing shirts. Check out the video below. It's a 1 minute time lapse of about 30 minutes of work. Looks rad. Graphic Design 1 This year, I have 3 Graphic Design 1 classes and ALL of them are ENTIRELY different personality wise! I've thrown some pretty major stuff at them early and they've handled it like champs! I've been really impressed with some of their skills and intrinsically beginning to understand how to navigate in Photoshop. They seem to be having fun. I throw a bunch of weird stuff at them right now to teach them basic tools and functions. We have a good time. Check out some of their images below: Graphic Design 2 I've been mean, lol. I have been reviewing since school started. They aren't excited, but I don't care! They need their fundamentals revisited - because they are the basis of good design! Some students haven't had me in 3 years, so we're pretty focused right now. They just started their first project today. It's actually a fairly complicated project. They need to design a print-ready 11x17 concert poster and create corresponding facebook and instagram ads at the right dimensions all with the correct resolution. I think they dig it (so far). They need to do research on the band, it's image, it's target audience, hunt down their logos and use multiple images to create a graphic in Photoshop to support and bring interest to the design. I don't have much for you, except this video. The GD2 students challenged me to create a chicken with a cow head in a Nicholas Cage cage. I was demoing some skills and obliged. Enjoy our weirdness! ______________________________________

I am not a parent of a student but a Grandma of the teacher, Mrs. Quick. I may be biased but I have watched not only the advancement of these students and have actually met one or two but have also seen Kayley’s growth, strength and willingness to expand her knowledge and eagerness to share and teach correctly. What an asset to Flagstaff High School Faculty and it’s Community.
